Embarrassed Of Your Teeth?

Smiling is sometimes difficult to do if your teeth are not as attractive as you wanted them to be. It would be such an awkward feeling to smile when you know your teeth’s imperfections will show. Some people are very self conscious about this. Stained, chipped and broken teeth are the common imperfections that your teeth may have. These problems can keep you from smiling or cover your mouth when you do smile. You do not really need to endure such feelings of embarrassment. A simple teeth bonding can make a big difference on your on the appearance of your teeth and hide all the imperfections. By having this cosmetic procedure, you can regain your brilliant and confident smile.

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a pain-free procedure which only takes 30 minutes to 1 hour of chair time per tooth. In fact, it is one of the easiest procedures of any cosmetic dental treatment techniques available in dentistry today. Dental bonding starts with the thorough cleaning of your teeth. A resin, which is matched to the color of your teeth, is bonded on your broken or chipped tooth. It will be cured with UV curing light for a few minutes.

Advantages of dental bonding

Dental Teeth Bonding
Dental Teeth Bonding
  1. Only one visit is necessary
  2. Only 30-60 minutes of chair time
  3. Less preparation of the teeth, so more preservation of your own tooth structure (enamel)
  4. Very cost effective (inexpensive)
  5. Mercury-free
  6. Very cosmetic

Disadvantages of bonding

  1. Stains after several years
  2. They don’t last as long as a veneer or a crown

What are bonding used for?

  1. Chipped or cracked teeth
  2. Spaces between teeth
  3. Change the shape of the teeth
  4. Cavities
  5. Change old silver fillings to composite tooth-colored fillings

Dental bonding also has an advantage to use as fillings over silver or amalgam fillings because  resin does not shrink and expand like amalgam does. With this shrinkage and expansion, over time teeth can develop cracks in them and eventual make them weak enough to fracture.

So, even if bonding cannot cure all dental problems like large fractured areas, it can surely give you small solutions that can make a big different about the way you look and the way you feel about your smile. Alternatives to this will be doing veneers or crowns. Ask your dentist about it. Call us at 323-771-7254 with any questions you may have or to book an appointment.

I truly wish I had of chosen this method when I was getting my teeth fixed. Unfortunately a auto accident left all of my upper front teeth broken, and my dentist chose to pull them and fit me for a partial denture. I hate it, and am still shy when it comes to my smile.

Debra, I am so sorry to hear that. It is very unfortunate. You might want to look into implants or even bridges. They will be more aesthetic and you will feel a lot more confident about your smile.

I had dental bonding on my front 2 teeth that both had been chipped at some point. The first time I had it done, it lasted several years and then I had it sort of touched up by another dentist about 8 years ago and it’s still holding strong. I would highly recommend the procedure.

I have irregular teeth both on my upper side and lower side. I always think before smiling or laughing. I think dental bonding can change the appearance of my teeth so that I can smile any time without any awkward feeling.

Thorough brushing and flossing can typically prevent or control the disease. Unfortunately, the early signs of the disease can be easily missed at home, but readily detected during a routine dental visit.

Yes, that is the most important fact about gum disease. People don’t know they have it until it’s too late. So the best way to detect it is having the regular 6 month dental checkups.

Very informative and something I’m definitely interested in. If the bonding stains after a few years, can it be fixed with whitening?

No, unfortunately teeth whitening will not change the color of any restoration including the bonding. At that point your choice is only to change the restoration. Your option at the beginning is to do veneers instead of bonding which will never discolor, but they are more expensive. But they look amazing.
